Politics Blow

Here is my problem with everything:
Everyone in politics is a politician. 
I HATE that. Seriously. Why can one person, one single person that is running for office not spout crap, and avoid answering questions and blame someone else for their circumstances. I hate that no one can say "We HAVE to cut spending dramatically - forget the taxes, we can't raise them enough to cover what we are overspending - we have to STOP OVERSPENDING." Guys, it is basic. 

We (me and David) have been in/currently are (student loans!) in debt. We know that we spent more than we were making. We also know that we made the choices that put us in that debt. We knew that we couldn't afford what we were doing. And we know that, now, looking back, a lot of that debt was for stupid things that we shouldn't have done. We would totally take that back if we could. But we did it, we borrowed money to do it, and we had to pay it back. So we did. I have worked jobs I hated. I have worked 60, 70, 80 hour weeks. David has worked and gone to school and lived without a wife for many nights of the week. And yes, now, I do get to travel sometimes. David does get a new pair of shoes. But we have the money to pay for it - we save the money to pay for it - and we have learned from our mistakes. 

Will our country never learn this? Learn, as SNL said, don't buy stuff you cannot afford. Why are we spending money on robotic animals and bridges to nowhere and salaries for dog walkers and all the other stuff that we don't need? 

That is the other thing I hate. There is a want, and then there is a need.
Things the Government needs to do for its people:
Don't hinder them from life, liberty, pursuit of happiness
Make sure they are safe from the crazies (in other words, have a Justice system)
(Go read this for everything the Constitution says the government SHOULD do)

Things the Government WANTS to do for its people (but are in not specifically in the Constitution, unless you use promoting Heath and Welfare in a crazy broad sense)
Nice roads
Good schools
Great economy 
Jobs
Unemployment checks when they are down on hard times
Retirement after they have worked to a good age
Heath care and birth control

I am not saying that all the WANTS are not good things, I am saying that if we can't afford them, then we can't have them. It is like Organic Food - obviously that is the best thing for you, and obviously I want to buy it - but I can live without it. I can eat rice and beans and survive. Taxing everyone and their mother to within an inch of their life isn't the answer - I just don't get how it is fair for me to pay more taxes, because I work 3 jobs and am never home, than someone who works a part time job. I don't get it. It doesn't promote hard work. It makes me not want to claim money I make, or it makes me not want to work at all.

To me, the biggest issue of this election was the fiscal issues - because in my opinion  the government has no business telling me about my reproductive organs and paying for things to keep them in check (that is my responsibility if I am having sex), doesn't have a place in telling me who I can marry, shouldn't be able to dictate if I choose to have health care or not, and sure as heck shouldn't be telling me how and what to eat. However, if they are going to take my money, my HARD EARNED MONEY that I work freaking 70 hour weeks to make, if they are going to take that money and spend it on stupid shiz that I don't NEED from them? No. Absolutely not. That is a deal breaker. If you want to take my money,spend it on smart things. I work HARD for that money. Stop paying budget committees that can't pass a budget. Stop subsidizing phone service. Stop paying for musicals. Stop paying for video games. Stop paying for stupid stuff no one needs, and most of us don't even want. 

I just think the system is broken. I don't think Obama is right. I don't think Romney is right. I think everyone sucks. And I think that I would love some HONESTY in our government. Of course, there never will be. No one will stand up and say what needs to be said because they will lose votes. They won't be unpopular, because then they can't be elected. What is it that we were taught growing up? "What is popular isn't always right, and what is right isn't always popular." It was true then and it is true now.

Created equal in the eyes of God, yes, but physical and emotional differences, parental guidelines, varying environments, being in the right place at the right time, all play a role in enhancing or limiting an individual's development. But I DO believe every man and woman, if given the opportunity and encouragement to recognize their potential, regardless of background, has the freedom to choose in our world. Will an individual be a taker or a giver in life? Will that person be satisfied merely to exist or seek a meaningful purpose? Will he or she dare to dream the impossible dream?

Amen. Why can't we go back to the time when people actually were accountable for their actions, including the dang goverment? 

Ugh, I am just another frustrated young voter. And we are getting louder and I hope someday, someone in Washington will listen.
